Host Question: What is holistic nutrition? What does that mean in a broad sense?
Answer: It is looking at the body as a whole and looking at ourselves as part of nature’s ecosystem. Modern medicine is really focused on reducing and masking symptoms when we should be focused on finding root causes and preventing conditions from developing in the first place, which is how I view holistic nutrition.
Answer: Holistic nutrition has a lot of different definitions, I guess, across the board. It can be a little bit of like a catch phrase or a trending term. Same thing with. Or natural, it can fall into that category. However, I like to define it more so as just looking at the whole body and not just looking at the food or just looking at one factor. It’s more so looking at food, mindset, fitness, health, and all stress. There’s so many things that has to go into your personal health. So I like to look at holistic nutrition as not only just looking at one factor, but looking at a lot of different factors that can affect your body.
Answer: A dietitian can do a variety of different things. In my private practice, we work one on one with patients providing nutrition support. So that can look like helping them with shopping, grocery shopping, how to cook, how to encourage healthier eating at home, whatever their needs are. We will kind of hold their hand through that process.
