Host Question: What is something that you love about working in the field of nutrition?
Answer: I love getting to see client progress and wins. It’s the coolest thing to get to work with someone and see when you have your initial call with them. You see them struggling. You see them having a really tough time. And my favorite kind of thing is especially like I’m really passionate about behavioral nutrition mindset, emotional eating. I have a background in eating disorders, so getting to see someone from a mindset perspective grow, from being in a really tough spot to a few months down the line and seeing so much progress is just so cool.
Answer: What I love is the job that I’ve sort of created for myself, I think when I was going to school to become a registered dietitian. There’s a heavy emphasis on clinical, and I never really wanted to work in a clinical space. There’s nothing wrong with that. A lot of people love the clinical space. It just wasn’t for me. I’ve sort of created this whole alternative setting for my job, and I love it because of the flexibility, but mainly because of the opportunities that just continue to arise. You know, I never know what’s going to be in my inbox and there’s always exciting things there and I like being able to get my toes in a lot of different areas. And with that already credential, you really can’t go wrong. It’s really open and flexible to learn new things, and it’s constantly evolving as we learn more about nutrition because it feels like every single day opinions are changing or there is conflicting opinions. And I think it’s really cool that the whole field of nutrition, for the most part, is pretty open to science and evidence changing, or our understanding of the science is changing.
Answer: One thing I love the most about working in the field of nutrition is it’s something you have to do so constantly, like you have to eat and it’s so something you get to apply to your life time and time and time again, which I think is really interesting. And it’s also something, one of the things that drew me to the field of nutrition to especially to being a dietitian, was that I can really help my loved ones, too. My dad has high blood pressure. We’ve been working on his diet, you know, family members with really low blood sugar. I get to help them with diabetes. So that part I really enjoyed too. I’m also a really big science nerd and nutrition is such a good applied science. You get to learn all these different processes in the body and physiology and the biochemistry that happens at such a small and a small level in your body. And then you get to think about it in terms of the food you eat. So it’s very applied sciences, which I’ve always really enjoyed.
