Host Question: What is an associate’s level degree in nutrition? How long does that take to obtain? And what types of jobs could you do with just the associates with an associates level degree?
Answer: That would take about two years. You would be eligible to sit for the exam, that is dietetic technician registered exam, which is basically a registered dietitians assistant in a hospital. But you do need to sit for that exam before you can use that. And then if you wanted to become a dietitian, you would need to transfer to a bachelor’s program first.
Answer: With an associate’s degree in nutrition, especially that dietetics side of it, you can be a diet tech. An associate’s degree takes two years, and then it’s pretty similar to the process to become a dietitian. You are just a tech for the dietitians. Then you do have to do some clinical hours. Then you sit for an exam. A lot of people who if they, you know, they did their bachelors degree, they want to be a dietitian, but they don’t get matched into an internship their first round. They’ll go ahead and be a diet tech.
Answer: An associate’s level is just a two year program that will give you basic nutrition courses. From there, you could go into nutrition management assistance, you could work for a nutrition program, especially things like work or SNAP programs. But from there, really, you would need to do a little bit more schooling to actually get that bachelor’s degree and kind of work a little bit more towards higher professional roles.
